Crib Bedding a few months late....

I started this project in December of 2010. After I had found out I was having a GIRL. 

I really started this project when Ruby was about 5 months old maybe.... 

I made the bumper pads in about 2 days. Totally beat myself up about that.Really? Why did I think it was going to be so complicated?!

My goal with this project was to make her bedding girly, and NOT baby. This way she (or I, like she cares) can enjoy it for a few years. And how could I not incorporate red into it? 

One of my young women asks me all the time what Ruby's name it. The other day I finally said, just look at what she's wearing, it's almost always RED. Well, not always. But of her 5 pairs of shoes, 4 of them are red. Totally not my fault!

Dust ruffle, this is the second idea, bought new fabric and 

used the red which was supposed to be on the bumper pads.

I didn't even end up using the original fabric I bought for the ruffle. I'll probably use it for another sheet.

Whole ensemble. I don't love the green on green. Bought the polka dot fabric for something else, can't even remember, used it for the sheet because I had it. 

The QUILT, the thing that brings this mess all together. The squares and circles are printed on the fabric. My grandma and I hand quilted it to look like it was pieced. I wish I had a better camera so you could see just how good it looks. The binding was also changed, I didn't use the original fabric I bought. I wanted so badly to do scalloped edges and put a great big stip of red around the entire quilt. Pretty sure if I had done that this quilt would have never been finished!

Whole ensemble minus weird green sheet. I put one side of the bumper pads in because Ruby was smashing them all up to see outside the crib. I really liked the 2 fabrics next to each other, wish I would have made it that way. 

 Bumper pads, again, moved to Ruby wouldn't smash them. The original idea was to put  a red fabric on the inside but I decided it was too loud. I think that's what ended up being the dust ruffle. I had to buy the pink extra. I think I went to 2 different stores and bought some of the fabric even on etsy. 

I think she likes it... :) 

Something funny about this line of fabric. This company came out with a similar line just as I was finishing up and it's called "Ruby". I don't like it nearly as much as this though. 

I bought some embroidery hoops to hang on the wall. I'm going to put all the extra fabric in those. Maybe by the time she is 2 they will be up. Who knows, maybe this will give me the inspiration to get it done!

Christmas 2011

It's about time, I know.

This next selection of pictures aren't any less special, I just got tired of putting them all together. 

One of Zack's friends made him a giant gingerbread man, and gave a copy of the story and an adorable gingerbread man tie. This was especially exciting because he was a gingerbread man for Halloween this year. It was equally exciting for me because I had promised him we would make gingerbread men and we never got around to it.

Just about ready to crawl! I think she started really moving about 2 days after Christmas. 

Which ironically happens to be the same day I took the tree down.

9 Months and growing...

Our pretty princess is now 9 months old and what a sweetheart she is!

Some fun things about Ruby:

* She just started crawling a few days after Christmas, and is already pulling herself up onto things. Her favorite things to get into are the dvd player, and electrical outlets. The other day she crawled right up and pulled the baby electrical cover right off. Turns out we need new outlets so they aren't so loose. 

* Ruby also decided recently that she likes binkies. So between being able to crawl and have a plug in her mouth she is soooo content. I am loving it! Although she is so quiet, it's difficult to know where she has wandered off to. 

* Sleeping has also become easier for her since she started crawling, i'm wondering if she is just tired out from having to get herself around all day. I'm loving it seeing as Zack still takes better naps than her! 

* Ruby had her first haircut a few weeks before Christmas and it's probably almost time for another one. Her hair is funny because it grows forward and is stick straight with maybe a slight little bounce in the back. I was hoping she would get some curl from the West side of the family. 

*Our baby loves baby dolls and other babies. Last night I was watching my friends newborn and Ruby was absolutely in love with her. She kept trying to kiss her and touch her. 

*Ruby is mostly very mild, she gets excited at times, but for the most part she is just along for the ride and will be more than happy to observe. 

* She seems to be kind of a mama's girl. She doesn't love strangers and she loves my mom and sister but I can tell when i've been gone that she missed me.

* Zack loves Ruby, but he can be a little rough. He is very good about telling me when she has something she shouldn't. He probably likes that he's NOT the one in trouble at the moment. Ruby just adores him though. I love to watch them wrestle on the floor, they just scream and laugh, it's so fun to see them interact. I can tell when she is able to keep up with him they are going to give me trouble. 

The other day Zack was feeding the dog his cereal. I took his bowl away and was reading the paper while holding Ruby. Silly me, wasn't paying attention and put the bowl in baby's reach. She grabbed the bowl and dumped it all on the floor, and the dog of course raced to gobble it all up. Zack thought it was hilarious. I thought to myself "these 3 are plotting against me!" 

We love love love having this sweet girl in our family.

Super Sweet Halloween

Chapter 1: Choosing a Costume

So we (meaning Zack) had lots of ideas of what to be for Halloween. They included Mickey Mouse (again, which is weird because he hated that costume) I believe a spoon came up once, he wanted to be an airplane, a rocket, Buzz Lightyear (I was pulling for that one) and a red crayon. 

We finally decided on Buzz Lightyear and were getting ready to acquire it when Zack decided he wanted to be a gingerbread man. At first I didn't want to make a costume, I have about 10 sewing projects piled up already. But then I got to thinking about it and looking at what other people have done and I got really excited.

 I wasn't going to dress Ruby up this year, I have a bear snowsuit that I was just going to have her wear. When I saw how cheap it would be to make Zack's costume I decided why not make one for Ruby?

The felt cost me $6. I was so excited at how inexpensive these costumes for my 2 kids were going to be! Then I bought rik rak..... Ruby's costume took 12 yds. Zack's took 26, not to mention that I bought 2 different kinds for his because I didn't like the first one. Then I got to working on the gumdrop buttons... I did those twice. Of course Zack's costume needed a prop!!! So I made a giant sucker. Ruby's costume also needed a little something else so I made her an apron. It ended up costing me more than the Buzz Lightyear costume, but they were so fun to make and everyone loved them!  

Rik rak for Ruby's apron was originally going to be for Zack's but I 

decided it was too big. I have 5 yds if you ever need some! 

Chapter 2:

Pumpkin Pickin'

Zack wanted to go to the corn maze this year, i'm not sure where he even learned about it. I remembered that a pumpkin patch we went to a few years ago had a small corn maze that was free so we decided to check it out. Small it was, and afterword Zack wanted to go to the "big" corn maze. The pumpkin patch also had a tractor ride and I think that made up with it's "whimpy" (in a 3 year olds eyes) FREE corn maze.

Zack did appreciate all the tractors you could drive. Lucky for us they had a RED one.

Chapter 3: Pumpkin Pie

 "Mommy, I hafta scratch this punkin cuz i'm gonna make punkin pie"

"Mommy, this is my scoop. Do you know where I learned how to make pie? I learned it on Super Why" 

"Mommy, why is Grandpa dressed up?"
What the? How did that get in there????

Chapter 4: Carving

The rest of the night he spent making a train out of the kitchen chairs. 

Except when it was time to claim the finished product he came back of course. 

His pumpkin is a haunted house if you can't tell. 

And Ruby spent the rest of the night kicked back with her fat little feet on the table, drinking...

Judging by the fact that she sat and sucked on it for 20 minutes, i'd say she liked it!

Chapter 5: Halloween Night

Zack checking out his haul. He didn't eat any dinner that night so he wasn't able to have any of his candy, well maybe one piece. He forgot about it after that and still to this day hasn't had any, he hasn't even asked about it. I think he is pretty used to his Nazi mom not letting him have sweets. But hey, it doesn't seem to bother him a whole lot, it definitely doesn't motivate him to eat!
